COURSE I: Introduction to Multicultural Counseling
Audience:
School Counselors, social workers, counselors, therapists, psychologists.
Course Objective:
This course presents an overview of the multicultural counseling field. Students will learn the different skills necessary needed to become a culturally competent counselor. Specific emphasis will be on understanding racial identity and acculturation as a way to understand different racial/ethnic groups from a within group and beween group perspective that minimizes group stereotyping. Racial/ethnic groups covered in this course are: White Americans, African Americans, Latinos, and Asian American.
* A special section on sexual orientation issues is included in the course.
